Elvaston Castle’s “Golden Gates” originally hail from Versailles. Today they are not so Golden after being allowed to rust and ruin. To learn more about the state of your heritage read the Friends of Elvaston website

These “Golden Gates” belong to you… but if Derbyshire County Council’s plans to lease the park to a private developer go ahead the famous Golden Gates may well be closed to you.

The Golden Gates were installed in the park in 1819, they made their to Elvaston via Madrid and Versailles.
